Spotlight- Bishop Fred and Pastor Alice

One of our partnerships deserves some special attention today!! Bishop Fred and Pastor Alice are a power couple! They love the work they do and do it every day with utter and complete joy! They have two schools that they run and work hard to empower all their students to reach for the stars- especially through music!

Bishop Fred states the following in regards to his experience with Malaria (since we've been discussing the importance of nets on social networks)  " It is believed malaria is one of the last three major epidemic diseases, killing well over a million people a year. 
Malaria is the main cause of death for children under 5 years in most parts of Kenya. In pregnant women, malaria causes anaemia, low birth weight, miscarriage and even maternal death. It is estimated that 10 to 20 per cent of maternal deaths are attributed to malaria.
Use of mosquito is being encouraged against mosquito bites, and have been shown to give substantial protection against malaria. When our children at the orphanage were not using these mosquito nets were treated for malaria from time to time but since we introduced the net, malaria is much minimized"

Not only do they help their students develop mind, soul, and heart throughout the school age years they have recently initiated efforts for a vocational school to help those graduating find work - allowing for the ability to support themselves after school. Empowerment has always been a cornerstone in their educational program. Here are some students learning hair styling techniques at the salon school!

 Tabibu Africa's mission involves educating, empowering, and showing compassion to impoverished women and children of East Africa. We do this by providing clinics for basic health care, education regarding the truth about HIV/AIDS and other preventable diseases, training to improve self-confidence and self worth, small business training, and construction of schools and other needs.

Tabibu Africa utilizes a triad of medical clinics, education, and empowerment to better the lives of those we serve during every expedition. By providing wellness check-ups and basic medical care healthier children are able to focus in school and learn and grow to the best of their abilities. Children who learn more and are able to go further in life and truly reach their full potential. Children who have the opportunity to learn and grow can find their voices and stand up for what they believe in, and what they want in their lives. Education is empowering - especially for those young women and girls.

Tabibu Africa Inc assists the women and children of Eastern Africa with those three things - medical care, education, empowerment - but in return we get so much more....

#Water Wednesday

As a young girl I loved sitting in the shade by the stream in a park by my house and reading. I could lose myself listening to the water and exploring other worlds through the pages of my books.

Water is capable of calming and destroying, creating and exciting. 

Water is powerful - Water is life. 

Yet, a substantial portion of the Kenyan population do not have access to clean drinking water. Tabibu Africa Inc has attempted to ease the burden of disease from polluted drinking water by holding workshops on building rain recepticles and sustainable water filtration systems with sand and charcoal. While this in no way cures the problem we hope that we can make an impact one helping hand at a time. 

Culture and an Open Mind

According to the Oxford Dictionary culture is defined as: "The customs and beliefs, art, way of life and social organization of a particular country or group" Every country, every geographical area, every people has their own individual culture. The diversity and individuality afforded is a very beautiful thing, allowing for the fostering of identify within oneself. Which can then invoke a sense of power of self due to feeling like one knows who they truly are.

However, lately there is has been monumental shift in culture- one that we hope will continue to bloom and grow. It is that of a global culture, that all humans are apart of- one of love and understanding. One that allows us as humans to nurture and enable one another, so we may feel unique and loved just as we are no matter what.

Some days it feels like it's us against the world - some days it feels like we could conquer the world. Most of the time it all depends on our attitude. At least that's what I've begun to learn in life. Usually the key to flipping that switch, at least for me, is a smile - either received or given. A smile really is the language of love- and the effects of that smile can reach a lot deeper and further than known. So this weekend let's all spread some love.

Ripples across the Oceans

When I lived near the Ocean a favorite thing to do when I felt disconnected and alone was sit on the shore feet in the water and think of all the lands, all the people these waters were touching at the same time. It helped me feel connected to the earth, to others, and to my inner purpose.
The quote "Be the Change you wish to see in the World" from Mahatma Gandhi has been a life goal of mine basically since I first heard it. I've been striving to be a positive influence in all I do. Sometimes it's easy to feel that spark within and be a light, be a ripple. Other times it's difficult to find your inner purpose and it's the ripples of hope from others that rekindle your purpose, your passion. We are all connected on this beautiful planet-every person, plant, and animal...How can we all impact each other for the better?

When the Linemen of Rocky Mountain Power in Goshen, UT heard that Little Giants didn’t have electricity they took matters into their own hands.  This group of lovely individuals gathered together and raised funds out of the goodness  of their hearts – enough money was raised to allow Little Giants School to get electricity!!

Thank you to the Linemen of Rocky Mountain Power in Goshen. The students at Little Giants Primary School have a brighter future thanks to your efforts! Your hands came together to make a big difference in the lives of others. Asante Sana!
